In this intermediate drawing class you will spend 3 hours on an in depth self portrait using charcoal or pencil on paper. You can either draw directly from a mirror or from a photograph. If you have limited practice drawing faces I would recommend using a photo as it is much easier. If using a photograph make sure you have a strong light on one side, as high contrast between light and shadow makes for a more interesting portrait, and is great practice for studying light and shadow. Also if you need reading glasses to draw, and you don’t want to have glasses on your self portrait, you will need to work from a photograph. However if you wear contacts this will solve the problem and you can work directly from a mirror if you wish.
